Doing Bathroom Remodel in Havertown – Shower Stall
This was a complete bathroom remodel that we did in Havertown in which we removed everything down to the studs. Not only the shower walls but also all walls in this bathroom because they were already tiled. Then we build everything back up again with mold resistant drywall and cement board inside the shower stall.
What Type of Shower Pan
In this case we installed a purchased fiberglass shower pan. But, there are also mortar and tile shower pans which can be used instead of fiberglass. Tile and mortar is a multi-step process. The sub-floor needs to be inspected and any weakness corrected before starting as cement is very heavy. First a layer of cement to slope towards the drain. Then another layer of cement as a bed for the tiles, hence it’s often called a wet-bed shower pan.
As to which to choose between fiberglass and wet-bed is a matter of trade-offs. Fiberglass is less expensive but is harder to clean and may crack over time. The wet-bed tile floor is more durable but will cost more, so the choice is entirely yours.
Tile on the Shower Walls
We used wall tiles with rows of larger and smaller tiles, which look nice. You can however vary this according to your taste, just show us what you want.
There are companies that sell made-to-order shower wall liners, but I don’t believe they will hold up over time. So I’ll recommend tile on the shower walls on top of cement board, rather than drywall. This makes the tile impervious to water.
Choose Your Components
We used wide frameless glass doors on this job to give the modern feel of a more open design. These come ready to install, in most cases, but a custom configuration is also possible. Good quality doors have stainless steel hardware.
So if you need a bathroom remodel in the Havertown to Berwyn areas we have all the best components available. Also we do detailed expert installation of tiles and fixtures. This all means we’ll do a great job at a good price.
